Epic Bikes 3-D Fit with Mike Stigers

My educational background affords me the understanding of how and why a proper bike fit is so important, but not until I was sidelined by an overuse injury did I heed my own knowledge. I have always been spot fitted, which missed a 1cm leg length discrepancy. i.e. major knee problems, which, in no way would improve without a valgus shim. Improper saddle aft positioning put pressure where it taint supposed to be and also caused lower back soreness at the beginning of every training season. Transitioning from dedicated rider to racer my form evolved into a biomechanical atrocity. My misalignments were noticeable because of the 3-D fit and the technician. All the equipment in the world won’t help the incompetent and unknowledgeable. Far and away Mike is the man to see --skilled and even humorous. Based on my knowledge and my experience in the shop, I would recommend nothing else but a proper 3-D fit.

WOW!! Is all I have to say. It’s like strapping a jet pack to a charging bull, the difference is night and day. Honestly, I can not believe how much of a difference it has made and there are many improvements afoot with follow-up visits. Already, I can tell I’m putting more power to the pedals!

I just really wanted to share with everyone about the fitting that Mike Stigers does. For the last few years, he has been very diligent in making sure i'm fit as best possible. Depending on your type of riding or endeavors, he's very knowledgeable. Yes, I'd admit that I don't understand everything he says. Just kidding. Ok, not kidding. I'm learning though. Recently, he fit me to my new tri bike. It is amazing! I've rode it twice and I can't see needing an adjustment yet. He even has it planned for the more agressive riding. He has also done the fit for Mark (more of a comfort ride) and has worked with Lindsey (ofcourse she is still growing so it is everchanging right now). If you haven't had your personalized fit yet, go get it done now so you'll be ready for the spring

I just wanted to let everyone know how awesome the BG Fit system is. I got fitted at Epic by Mike Stigers. I had known that I had a knee issue, but I didn't realize the extent of my problem until I saw it on the video. The tweaks that Mike made to my shoes, cleats, and seat were right on the money! I was impressed with Mike's knowledge of the BG Fit system and how it specifically applied to my body with its own set of unique problems. As soon as I left the store, I was eager to ride. During the next few rides, I could tell a marked improvement! I felt more power. I felt more comfortable. I felt symmetrical, which I have never felt before. (I always thought that my body was "crooked" and I always favored my right leg because of this "crookedness" feeling.) I'm "crooked" no more! I encourage everyone to get the BG Fit at Epic. You won't regret it.

I didn't think i had any fit problems at the time other than feeling my bike might be alittle small. but after a wreck that cause me to have to get a new bike which was a size bigger. i decided to take a advantage of the offer to get fit, after discussing parts and such with Mike they built the bike and i was fitted accordingly. I have to say i discovered that i did have issues before but you really dont notice it cause you just think that it's all part of riding a bike while getting old! I have to say now i can REALLY tell the difference in my body, legs and arm position which causes lets fatigue and produces more power without using more energy. I would definitely recommend this!

Just to add my two cents on a BG Fit from Epic. (I know many of you already know this but perhaps some folks are thinking about it and my experiences may be helpful).

It didn't take long after I got into cycling in early 2008 before I started having fairly regular problems with my right knee. It was a dull ache on the top of my knee that cropped up after riding even just a few miles and would stay with me for a few hours after the ride (even if I iced my knee afterward).

At that point, I had had a quick "basic fit" from a store in Peachtree City that had worked on my 10-year-old Trek.

After riding my first 1,000 miles on the old Trek, I upgraded to a Tarmac in late 2008. Tim did some of the initial measurements and Mike did the basic fit that they do with every new bike purchase. Sure enough, my knee problem went away for months. Then, in early 2009, during some cold winter rides, the knee problem cropped up again and even got worse. Sometimes after a long ride on Sunday, my knees would still hurt on Wednesday.

Tim recommended an advanced, 3D fit and suggested I do that with Mike since he had done the initial fit on the Tarmac. The process is simply outstanding and Mike spent hours with me. In the end, I was more comfortable on the bike than I have ever been. In fact, I can truly say that for the first time ever, my foot/shoe seemed integral to the pedal. They literaly seemed like "one."

Still, after a 100 miles or so of easy riding (part of my knee rehab that Mike suggested) I actually had just a little bit of pain in my left knee. Mike suggested I come back in and after just 30 minutes or so of a few extremely minor adjustments I went on my way (I believe Mike's exact quote was the "magic is in the little stuff" - but he might not have said stuff for those of you who know Mike).

Sure enough, within a week or so and a hundred miles or so - no more pain. AND, besides that, I'm more comfortable and efficient on a bike than I have ever been. I am a true believer in the BG Fit system and highly recommend an advanced, 3D fit at EPIC it if you are thinking about it.

after a few hours and a bunch of adjustments, Mike had my fit

think I can say the bike fit you helped me with in the fall has been throughly tested and is a resounding success. We have duplicated the shoe portion of the fit in several pairs of shoes and have done our best to duplicate the bike set up on my single speed. Overall I feel much more comfortable on my bikes and my back pain is much more manageable.
thanks again for your help

Being a USAT and USA cycling coach, I know the importance of a good bike fit. Competing as well as Coaching long and short course Triathletes and cyclists has taught me the importance of proper fit. I was looking for a bike fitter in the nearby area that had a dynamic fitting protocol. Epic bikes appeared on my computer. I made an appointment with Mike from Epic bikes in McDonough,Ga. From the start Mike Stigers was a great help, from analyzing my weaknesses along w/ my strengths, he was able to "dial me in". His attention to detail enabled me to gain at least 15 watts of extra power while saving my legs for a good, strong run. Although the power output was advantageous, it was the comfort level and reduced soreness that convinced me that I have reached cycling "Nirvana". Even better, the follow up fit really got me to a better place. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is this: If you are serious about cycling in any capacity, Epic bikes is the place to go for a great bike fit!!! Whether you tour long distance, race, or compete in Triathlon, Mike and Tim are the source for smooth cycling.

O.K. Hopefully, this will be a good write up for you guys. Take care and see you soon!!

Sincerely,
Jake Brindle
